Operators must understand the articulation geometry, load centre behaviour and the different sightlines compared with a conventional counterbalance.

Conversion or specialist training is not a short add-on chat. Proper Bendi forklift course delivery covers theory, practical manoeuvres and assessment so candidates can be authorised on articulated machines with confidence. Employers then complete familiarisation on the exact model and aisle layout used on site.

VNA forklift training for high-density warehouses

Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) trucks — including man-up and man-down configurations — allow racking to sit much closer together, maximising cubic capacity on expensive land. The operating environment is less forgiving: wire or rail guidance, high lift heights, and strict pedestrian segregation rules change the risk profile completely.

Counterbalance is not obsolete — skill stacks win

Counterbalance remains the foundation for many careers. The commercial edge comes from stacking skills: counterbalance plus reach, then Bendi and/or VNA. Operators who can move between dock work and high-density aisles are more deployable across shifts and sites.

From an employer perspective, training a reliable counterbalance operator onto Bendi or VNA is often cheaper and faster than recruiting a scarce specialist, provided the conversion is delivered to HSE L117 standards with proper assessment records.

Earning potential and hiring demand

While pay varies by site and shift pattern, specialist narrow-aisle qualifications typically improve employability because:

• High-density sites cannot substitute with untrained counterbalance drivers
